‘Michael’ Nears $800M As Zack Snyder’s Global DC Appeal Looks Even Stronger (Report)

Puck News is now backing up the same point that my insiders have been making about Zack Snyder’s DC and the global box office.

In the latest Puck newsletter feedback section, a banker is quoted saying, “Being global now matters more than ever, and Hollywood fails to see it.”

That lines up with my recent report on Michael, which is now nearing $800 million worldwide and has added another $100 million internationally since my last article just 10 days ago.

Box Office Mojo lists Michael at $789.2 million worldwide, with $321.1 million domestic and $468.1 million international. That means 59.3% of the box office is coming from overseas markets.

Michael Keeps Proving The Global Point

Michael is no longer just a hit. It is a global hit.

The film has now reached $789.2 million worldwide. The international number has climbed to $468.1 million, while domestic sits at $321.1 million.

Michael is making 59.3% of its box office internationally, which is exactly the kind of global pull Hollywood keeps chasing.

Just as my insiders first said, the movie is being driven by the power of a larger-than-life global icon.

Michael Jackson was not just an American celebrity. He was a worldwide figure. He had the kind of presence that crossed borders, languages, and cultures.

That’s exactly the same point my insiders have been making about Superman and Zack Snyder’s DCEU but what James Gunn’s DCU has been missing.

Zack Snyder Batman V Superman Ben Affleck

The Global Box Office Argument Gets Stronger

Man of Steel made $379.1 million internationally, or 56.6% of its worldwide total. Batman v Superman made $544 million overseas, or 62.2%. Those numbers don’t even count inflation, and when they do, they’re exceptionally higher.

James Gunn’s Superman finished with only $264.5 million internationally, making up a weak 42.7% of its worldwide box office.

Michael is built around a larger-than-life global icon. Snyder’s DC treated Superman, Batman, and the Justice League with that same kind of mythic scale.

Gunn’s Superman, however, went smaller and softer, and international audiences did not respond the same way.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League also recently hitting #1 in India as HBO Max launched there through JioHotstar. Years later, Snyder’s DC still has overseas heat.

Being global matters. Michael proves it. Snyder’s DC already had it, and just might again.
