Lucasfilm finally fires back against Star Wars rumors which follows it said the Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Rey movie has been delayed indefinitely.
The rumor follows the recent announcement by Lucasfilm about Jon Favreau developing and directing The Mandalorian & Grogu, which looks to be out of the gate first ahead of the Rey movie. The Mandalorian & Grogu is said to be filming this year, which means it’s the first Star Wars movie in active development in 6 years. Reportedly, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has been told by Disney CEO Bob Iger to get a Star Wars movie released ASAP otherwise she’ll get fired, so it appears as if the easiest and quickest thing to do is simply turn The Mandalorian Season 4 into a movie.
Regarding the Rey movie, back in early December saw a production report state the flick is supposed to start filming in April. However, according to Star Wars News Net, they contacted a source who said the script isn’t finished and that because of the strike, the film has been delayed and won’t start to film in April.
So following the surprise The Mandalorian & Grogu announcement, the World of Reel said they heard that Disney has delayed the film “indefinitely” which is why Disney announced the The Mandalorian & Grogu movie as “they just don’t have confidence that ‘New Jedi Order’ will be happening in the near future.” According to the site, there are creative differences with writer Steven Knight who they claim will exit Star Wars and instead will focus on his Peaky Blinders movie.
Rumors not true?
Following that most recent rumor about the Rey moving getting indefinitely delayed, Gizmodo now shoots down all the rumors:
Well, that’s not true, according to Lucasfilm. A source at the company told io9 the report is inaccurate and Knight continues to write and be a part of the process. In fact, the company is waiting on his latest draft as you read this.
The site hilariously goes on to shill for Disney and Lucasfilm and blames the fans for the rumors but at least they do mention all the problems Kathleen Kennedy has had getting productions off the ground. Likewise, all the Disney and Lucasfilm employees and Star Wars stans on Reddit are celebrating this as a win to validate their existence.
This actually isn’t the first time it has been said the Star Wars Rey movie isn’t happening as Hollywood producer and screenwriter Kamran Pasha has claimed the film won’t be happening and is a part of a desperate attempt by Kennedy to keep her job following the huge failure of Star Wars and Indiana Jones 5.
