The 'Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim': Watch First 8 Minutes

First Kraven, now Warner Bros. follows suit and releases the first 8 minutes from The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim anime movie.

Similar to Kraven, box office estimates aren’t that high for the flick, so what does Warner Bros. have to lose?

And if you think the new James Gunn Superman trailer will be released at the same time, the Superman trailer is best guessed to be released around Christmas.

What is The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim about?

New Line Cinema is bringing audiences back to Middle-earth with the original anime feature, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. This epic adventure revisits the world made famous by J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic books and the beloved The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Set 183 years before the events of the original films, The War of the Rohirrim explores the fate of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. When Wulf, a cunning and vengeful Dunlending lord, launches a surprise attack to avenge his father’s death, Helm and his people must defend themselves in the ancient fortress of the Hornburg—later known as Helm’s Deep. As the siege intensifies, Helm’s daughter Héra rises as a key figure, leading the resistance against a relentless enemy determined to destroy everything in their path.

Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, the film features an accomplished production team, including Oscar-winning The Lord of the Rings co-writer Philippa Boyens, alongside Jason DeMarco and Joseph Chou, who previously worked on the Blade Runner: Black Lotus series. The screenplay is penned by Jeffrey Addiss & Will Matthews and Phoebe Gittins & Arty Papageorgiou, with a story developed by Addiss, Matthews, and Boyens, based on Tolkien’s characters. Esteemed creative collaborators from the original trilogy, including Oscar winners Alan Lee and Richard Taylor and renowned Tolkien illustrator John Howe, also return.

A New Line Cinema presentation in collaboration with Warner Bros. Animation and Sola Entertainment, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will premiere internationally starting December 11, 2024, and in U.S. theaters on December 13, 2024, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
