Looking for your next must-watch series? Look no further than Landman, now streaming its first four episodes on Paramount+.
Created by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) and Christian Wallace, Landman delves into the high-stakes world of the Texas oil industry, with Billy Bob Thornton delivering a powerhouse performance as Tommy Norris.
The series hooks you in right from it’s opening and doesn’t stop.
Plot and Characters
Landman follows Tommy Norris, a relentless “landman” navigating the cutthroat oil industry as the right-hand man to a billionaire played by Jon Hamm. Tommy’s unapologetic, no-nonsense approach makes him both captivating and complex, as he juggles the chaos of his professional and personal life.
Surrounding him is a colorful cast of characters, including his dysfunctional family—an ex-wife (Ali Larter), a daughter (Michelle Randolph) – both more than meets the eye – and a son (Jacob Lofland), nicknamed “the Worm” as he learns the ropes in the oil fields fallowing in his father’s footsteps.
The series keeps you locked in and doesn’t shy away from gritty humor, dramatic conflicts, and unfiltered storytelling, portraying the oil industry as a larger-than-life family dynamic with high stakes and no room for weakness.
What Makes Landman Stand Out
Taylor Sheridan’s signature style shines through in Landman, blending sharp dialogue, complex characters, and heartfelt storytelling.
Billy Bob Thornton commands the screen with his portrayal of Tommy, a deeply flawed yet fascinating character who’s unafraid to call things as he sees them.
Not woke
The series is also a refreshing and welcome, especially among the woke entertainment put out recently by Hollywood.
Thornton’s character is not concerned about sparing feelings or sugarcoating the truth. Simply put, he’s tough and unfiltered and puts up with no bullshit. He’s an asshole.
There’s great dynamic between Thorton and the rest of the characters. When a liberal lawyer from NY, Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace), investigates the theft of a plane that led to a huge accident involving the transport of cocaine — sparks fly.
Landman also features T&A, jokes that aren’t politically correct, and fires jabs at the woke environmentalists.
Verdict: A Must-Watch
Landman is a gripping, unapologetically bold series that offers both drama and humor in equal measure. With standout performances, compelling storytelling, and Taylor Sheridan’s creative touch, it’s a 9/10 series that’s well worth your time.
