The North remembers, but apparently not this storyline!
The first trailer for the gothic horror The Dreadful has dropped (watch below), and what should be a dark, moody period thriller has turned into something else entirely on social media: a full-on Game of Thrones fever dream.
That’s because the film stars none other than Sophie Turner and Kit Harington — who’s ten years her senior — best known to fans as Sansa Stark and Jon Snow. And yes, this time, they’re romantically entangled.
While The Dreadful is its own story set in medieval England — with witches, curses, and unsettling vibes — fans aren’t letting go of Westeros just yet.

Jon + Sansa = Jonsa
YouTube comments on the trailer instantly turned into a flood of GoT jokes, memes, and Jonsa (Jon + Sansa):
“So they’re Lannisters now…” — @iustitiamerchantxiv5872
“Arya be like: Seven hells.” — @Rose_21-kw2ln
“Jon is such a Targaryen.” — @kman20
“I’ll have my Jonsa one way or another.” — @leleprtk

What is The Dreadful about?
In The Dreadful, Turner plays Anne, a young woman living on the fringes of society with her harsh mother-in-law Morwen (played by Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden).
When Jago (Harington), a man from her past, returns from war, things quickly take a supernatural turn — and, judging by the trailer, a steamy one too.

Fan reactions
Fans have been waiting years for this reunion.
Some called the film “Jonsa canon in a different multiverse.” Others joked they “don’t remember this episode of Game of Thrones,” and one simply cried: “WELCOME BACK JONSAAAAA 💃💃💃.”
Even those not caught up in the shipping madness were intrigued:
“A dark, gritty, medieval thriller?! This is right up my alley.” — @Hypegreene05
“Those are some EXCELLENT 15th century costumes.” — @Edralis
But it’s the GoT nostalgia — and, let’s be real, fantasy fulfillment — that’s fueling the trailer’s viral spread. The chemistry is real, the vibes are cursed, and fans are absolutely here for it.
“Sophie Turner and Kit Harington both look amazing. I can’t wait to see their movie.” — @mirsumon9
“Sophie said the intimate scenes with Kit were, as you see in the title, DREADFUL — and he had to stand on a box.” — @Juan.8354
Directed and written by Natasha Kermani, The Dreadful also stars Catherine McDonough as Kayna, Jonathan Howard as Brother Penros, and Laurence O’Fuarain as Seamus.
Release Date
The Dreadful hits theaters February 20, 2026.
So no, it’s not a secret Game of Thrones spinoff. But with that cast, the fan memes, and the forbidden energy, it might as well be.
