No Joke: Joker 2 Box Office Bombing Worse Than The Marvels

Joker 2 is now out in movie theaters and similar to The Marvels, it’s not performing well at the box office — and with fans.

Similar to Captain Marvel, the first Joker brought in a billion dollars. However, the sequel looks to be lucky to come in at half that.

The Marvels massively bombed with a $200.6M gross which only saw the fanboys come out. Joker 2 is looking similar. The fangirls definitely aren’t showing up for Harley Quinn and Lady Gaga, just like they didn’t for Margot Robbie and just like they didn’t for Brie Larson and Iman Vellani.

While it is being reported that Joker 2 brought in $7 million for its Thursday previews, which is actually about half what the first movie did, I believe that number also includes the first fan screenings held on Monday.

So the actual “Thursday” preview box office numbers are lower than The Marvels which went on to open to $46M, an MCU low that plummeted a massive 78% in week two. It’s hoped Joker 2 opens to $50M. Good luck. Update: Estimates are offering $47M or lower.

Sunday Update: I was right. It’s looking like a $39M-$40M opening.

Monday update: Actuals are being reported even lower at $37.8M. For comparison, the first Joker released in 2019 opened to $96.2 billion and went on to finish at over a billion dollars worldwide.

At least The Marvels had better reception, which doesn’t say much. When it comes to Joker 2, it’s a joke.

As pointed out by Deadline, the real-time exit polling for movie theaters via PostTrak comes in at an abysmal 1/2 star and only 40% positive.

The Rotten Tomatoes is also really bad. The shill reviewers actually came out and gave Joker 2 decent reviews as the Rotten Tomatoes score started off around a 62% fresh score, but now it has plummeted to 36%. That’s also the same score from the verified fan score. The first movie is much higher at a 68% Rotten Tomatoes Score and a very positive 89% fan score.

Joker 2 also received a “D” CinemaScore.

To boot the first movie only had a budget of $55M. Joker 2? $200 million — what???
