John Wick 5 is happening—but not the way you think.
Director Chad Stahelski says the upcoming film won’t continue the High Table storyline and won’t pick up where Chapter 4 left off. Instead, it’s a brand-new story centered on John Wick that he promises will leave fans stunned.

“It Will Be Really Different”
“The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up,” he told Empire. “So the only way to do a 5 is to have a new story that involves John Wick. It’s not a continuation, with the High Table. John dealt with his grief. It will be really different, and everybody [will] see the trailer and go, ‘Holy fuck… I gotta see that.’”

The Wick Universe Keeps Growing
Recently at CinemaCon saw the big news of the expansion of the John Wick universe, which includes a prequel anime and a Donnie Yen spinoff.
“The John Wick TV show and the animation are big priorities,” said Stahelski. “Our idea is to try some things and explore some threads and use those two properties to catapult us forward into the ideas for John 5.”

What’s next for the John Wick Universe?
Out May 9th on digital is the Wick Is Pain documentary that dives deep into the making of the John Wick franchise. The film features Keanu Reeves, director Chad Stahelski, and the original cast and crew reflecting on the franchise’s rocky beginnings and unexpected rise.
Opening June 6 is the spinoff, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, an assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma organization who sets out to seek revenge of her own after her father’s death.
As noted, John Wick 5 is in development, and the prequel anime tells the story of John Wick before the first film, as he completes the Impossible Task — killing all of his rivals in one night.
The Donnie Yen spinoff follows the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, continuing the story of Caine, who has been freed from the High Table.
