Michel Rooker Confirms James Gunn Directing Suicide Squad 2

Following having been fired from Disney and Marvel and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the direct competition scooped up James Gunn for Suicide Squad 2.

The initial reports stated James Gunn was hired to write Suicide Squad 2, with the potential to direct, and now Michael Rooker confirms James Gunn will be the director while appearing at the recent Walker Stalker convention in Atlanta.

“It’s terrible, isn’t it?” Michael Rooker said about Gunn getting fired. “Yeah, but oh well, guess what? He’s on a gig already. Suicide Squad, that’s right. He’s writing it and directing it as well.”

Reports have further offered that James Gunn’s take on Suicide Squad 2 will be new, which is leading to speculation various characters could get recast or that the sequel will feature potential all-new characters from DC’s stable.

Gavin O’Connor was tapped to direct Suicide Squad 2, but it has been said the upcoming Birds of Prey movie is now using that story, which sees the Black Mask kidnap Cassandra Cain, with Harley Quinn, Black Canary and Huntress forming a team to stop him. It’s also been said no one has seen Batman in Gotham City for years, which is why the Birds of Prey forms.

Another detail for Suicide Squad 2 prior to James Gunn coming on has been said to involve the Squad going after a living weapon of mass destruction, with Dwayne Johnson first said to be playing Black Adam to fulfill the role; however, subsequent reports have stated The Rock’s schedule couldn’t line-up, so Amazo was then supposed to be the villain.

With James Gunn coming on board Suicide Squad 2, more than likely everything has been scrapped, as Gunn likes to do his own approach.

Regarding Gavin O’Connor, he is actually now doing a movie with Ben Affleck.

Suicide Squad 2 currently has no release date.

The future of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is up in the air as Disney has put it on permanent hold.
