James Gunn Shuts Down DCU Batman Script and Test Screening Rumors

DC Studios co-head James Gunn continues to clear the air on misinformation surrounding his DCU and Batman.

A fan took to Threads to show a screenshot of a post claiming that director Andy Muschietti’s screenplay for The Brave and the Bold was complete and that Warner Bros. was targeting a 2028 release date.

However, Gunn quickly shot down the rumor (note: we didn’t bother to post news about it).

Responding directly to a fan who asked if the report was true, Gunn replied bluntly: “Fiction, sorry. Screenplay isn’t finished.”

Adding to the wave of speculation, another fan asked Gunn whether there had been a secret test screening for the film last year.

Gunn again dismissed the claim, stating: “That would be strange since the movie hasn’t started production.”

What is going on with Brave and the Bold?

Brave and the Bold – and even Gunn’s DCU – seems to be on hiatus pending the sale of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Andy Muschietti recently said he isn’t allowed to talk about it and that fans will have to wait a couple months for news.

Following our own report on how Gunn’s DCU future is in question, Gunn went to YouTube and the trades, confirming what we said, that his DCU isn’t set in stone.

Gunn even pushed for a “f’n awesome” Batman, obviously suggesting that Brave and the Bold and the DCU Batman aren’t happening and depend on new ownership.

Insiders have also said WB is concerned about what Gunn will do with Batman, DC’s biggest IP.

As fans wait to see what becomes of Gunn’s DCU, Matt Reeves starts filming soon on The Batman: Part II.

Gunn also starts production on Man of Tomorrow, his Superman family follow-up, this year.
