In a surprising revelation, legendary filmmaker James Cameron reveals he is working on a secret Terminator project.
In an interview with THR about his latest projects, Cameron discussed the upcoming Netflix animated series Terminator Zero, which is set to explore the origins of Judgment Day and the nuclear war that defines the dystopian future of the Terminator universe. Although Cameron is not directly involved in the new series, he expressed a keen interest in seeing how other creators are expanding the world he originally brought to life.
“My relationship to that is very much like The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” Cameron said, referencing the popular TV series that aired from 2008 to 2009. “Other people spinning stories in a world I set in motion is interesting to me. What’s their takeaway? What intrigued them about it? Where are they going with it?”
Cameron noted that he is particularly curious about how Terminator Zero will explore the root cause of Judgment Day and whether the nuclear war is depicted as an inevitable outcome or an alterable event. “It looks like they’re going back to the root cause of Judgment Day — the nuclear war — and whether that’s an ultimate timeline. I’d be curious to see what they’ve come up with,” he remarked.
However, when pressed about his own Terminator project, Cameron was tight-lipped, offering only a teasing response. “I’m working on my own Terminator stuff right now. It’s got nothing to do with that,” he revealed. “It’s totally classified. I don’t want to have to send out a potentially dangerous robotic agent if you were to talk about it, even retroactively.”
