Summary
- Iman Vellani has been assured by Marvel Studios that she will return to the MCU despite the failure of The Marvels
- The failure of The Marvels has caused doubts about the inclusion of the Young Avengers in the MCU
- Vellani will also be appearing in the upcoming Marvel Zombies animated series as Kamala Khan, described as the “Frodo of the story”
Following the massive failure of The Marvels, Iman Vellani says she has been “assured” by Marvel Studios that she will be returning to the MCU.
The Marvels recently bombed so bad that it lost Disney $200 million, and the flick also holds the record for the worst MCU and superhero drop at the box office in history.
Things are so bad that apparently, Marvel Studios had plans for the Young Avengers in the MCU, but following fans not showing up for The Marvels, Iman Vellani had to beg those few fans who went to see it to petition Marvel to get the Young Avengers in the MCU, so now the Young Avengers are in doubt which likely would be another disaster.
She doesn’t know when she will return to the MCU
So ahead of the recent Anime Awards, Polygon caught up with Iman Vellani and asked about her future in the MCU.
“I have been assured,” she said replied. “So that feels good, but there was no more assurance than that. [laugh] They give me breadcrumbs, and I try and make a meal out of it.”
As noted, Iman Vellani doesn’t know when she will return to the MCU.
Recently, also saw Brie Larson have nothing to say when asked about her own future in the MCU, and rumors offer a Captain Marvel 3 isn’t going to happen.
Center of Marvel Zombies
Iman Vellani previously did say she will be appearing in the upcoming Marvel Zombies animated series. She actually said Kamala Khan is at the center of the show, so if you happen to be one of the few fans of the character, that’s where she’ll show up last in the MCU.
“We’ve done the whole thing. It was amazing. It was so much fun. And I love—there are a lot of cool characters in the ‘Marvel Zombies’ show. And Kamala is kind of the center of the show. They described it to me, it’s like, ‘She’s basically the Frodo of the story.’ And I was like, ‘That’s amazing,’” she told The Direct back in November.
The boys are back in town
With movies such as The Marvels bombing, a Disney exec has said Bob Iger is pivoting away from the female-led roles that have bombed and is going to refocus on the male characters that have performed better at the box office and are much more popular.
If Iman Vellani happens to read this, why no one likes Ms. Marvel is pretty simple: The character never went on a “hero’s journey,” she was given everything and the kitchen sink. In the MCU, Kamala Khan is apparently cosmic, magical, an Inhuman, a mutant, the first X-Men, has either the Nega Bands or the Quantum Bands, or both — she’s everything under the f’n sun. In short, the writing surrounding the character is simply terrible and anybody that had a clue that knew how to tell a good story would know that.
Don’t replace original characters, don’t shit on original characters, don’t shit on the creators, don’t shit on fans. Don’t make it about an agenda instead of a good story. Not hard. https://t.co/TeGwZ3jvdX
