Lionsgate has released the official teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, offering the first look at the 2026 prequel film.
The story revisits the 50th Hunger Games, better known as the Second Quarter Quell, with a young Haymitch Abernathy thrown into the brutal arena.
The film hits theaters and IMAX on November 20, 2026.

Returning Director, Familiar Tone
Francis Lawrence returns to direct, continuing his work from past Hunger Games films. The screenplay is by Billy Ray, with production from Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. The film adapts Suzanne Collins’ 2024 novel, exploring the political undercurrents and personal sacrifice tied to Haymitch’s victory.
Cast and Characters
Joseph Zada plays Haymitch Abernathy, the District 12 tribute at the center of the story. Elle Fanning takes on the role of Effie Trinket, while Jesse Plemons plays Plutarch Heavensbee. Mckenna Grace appears as Maysilee Donner, and Maya Hawke plays Wiress. Ralph Fiennes portrays President Snow, with Laura Marcus as Silka Sharp and Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle. Kieran Culkin plays Caesar Flickerman, and Ben Wang joins as Wyatt Callow. Lili Taylor is Mags Flanagan, and Jefferson White plays Mr. McCoy. Iris Apatow appears as Proserpina, with Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Haymitch’s girlfriend. Billy Porter plays Magno Stift, Kelvin Harrison Jr. portrays Beetee Latier, Edvin Ryding is cast as Vitus, and Kara Tointon rounds out the ensemble as Willamae.

This marks the sixth installment in the Hunger Games franchise, which has earned over $3.3 billion globally. By focusing on Haymitch’s backstory, Lionsgate is deepening the mythology of Panem while reintroducing themes of survival, control, and rebellion.
