The Highlander reboot lives on as John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski has jumped on board the project.
"I've been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school," Stahelski told THR. "Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can't think of a better property that gives the opportunity to create interesting characters, mythic themes and action set pieces."
It's further noted Stahelski's other half on John Wick, David Leitch, could produce the Highlander reboot, but it's said that remains to be seen. Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis are producing, with a writer being sought as well.
Highlander debuted in 1986 starring Christopher Lambert as the immortal Connor MacLeod, with Sean Connery as Ramirez and Clancy Brown as the villain of the movie, The Kurgan. The story centered on immortal beings battling for The Prize using swords as weapons, as the immortals could only be killed by losing their heads. Highlander spawned sequels and a popular TV series starring Adrian Paul featuring an awesome soundtrack by Queen.
Chad Stahelski is also directing John Wick 2, and David Leitch has been recently named to be directing Deadpool 2.
A new Highlander prequel comic book has also been announced.
