Henry Cavill Teaming With Jake Gyllenhaal and Guy Ritchie In Expendables-Like Action Movie

Up next for Henry Cavill is a new action movie that sees the former Superman actor team with Jake Gyllenhaal and reteam with Guy Ritchie and Eiza Gonzalez in what is described as an Expendables-like movie.

Guy Ritchie directed Henry Cavill in The Man From UNCLE, and directed Cavill and Eiza Gonzalez in the upcoming war movie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Ritchie directed Gyllenhaal in The Covenant.

The details include that Lionsgate has picked up the flick, just as they did with Ministry.

The untitled action movie has been filming and will be completed in Spain this week so that means the film got the okay to film during the strikes as part of the interim agreements. The interim agreements allow independent productions with no direct ties to members of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to continue filming.

Deadline offers about the film: “Plot details are being kept under wraps but a source who knows the project told us it has an element of The Expendables to it.”

Veteran Spanish actor Carlos Bardem is also a part of the cast along with veteran U.S. actor Fisher Stevens.

Henry Cavill also has the Matthew Vaughn spy thriller The Argylle coming out and is developing Warhammer at Amazon, Jake Gyllenhaal has Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent and Amazon’s Road House reboot in the works, and just recently saw Eiza Gonzalez rumored as James Gunn’s new Wonder Woman.

“We are thrilled to once again be partnering with the entire Lionsgate team, whose passion and ambition for the film are very clear,” said Guy Ritchie in a statement. “We are excited to extend and build on our relationship with Joe, Adam, Nathan, and Charlotte to bring the film to audiences across the US.”

“We are very lucky to be working again with Guy, whose filmmaking transcends the action genre with its signature wit and irreverence. Combined with the unparalleled talents of Jake, Henry, and Eiza, this fast-paced, original action film promises to thrill, surprise, and delight,” said Charlotte Koh, EVP, Lionsgate Acquisitions and Co-Productions.

“We are delighted to be building on our relationship with Lionsgate, partnering with them on another incredible Guy Ritchie movie, following The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Having a powerhouse independent distributor in the US, combined with a wide array of the best in-class theatrical distributors from around the world, has allowed us to deliver a highly commercial film to the marketplace in what has been a very difficult period on our industry, and is a real testament to the power of independent distribution, which has never been more essential than this year,” added producer John Friedberg from Black Bear Pictures.
