Karen Gillan has now been spotted filming Highlander in Scotland, giving fans their first look at her as Heather, Connor MacLeod’s mortal wife and the love of his life.
The new set images via Scotland’s The Herald come as production continues overseas and follow Amazon MGM’s recent CinemaCon presentation, where the first footage from the Henry Cavill movie was shown off to exhibitors.
Karen Gillan Appears as Heather
Gillan is playing Heather, the key character from the original 1986 Highlander movie whose relationship with Connor helped define the emotional side of the story.
In the original film, after Connor MacLeod is cast out by his clan, he settles into a quieter life as a blacksmith and marries Heather MacDonald. As Connor’s immortality becomes clear, Heather’s story underscores the personal cost of living forever, as she grows old while he does not.
The new Scotland set images suggest Chad Stahelski’s reboot is digging into those early Highland years and keeping an important part of the original mythology intact.
Russell Crowe is in Scotland
Update: Russell Crowe also tweeted is is in Scotland as he is playing Ramirez, the role played by Sean Connery in the original 1986 movie. Crowe and Henry Cavill also starred together in Man of Steel.

Highlander Already Debuted Footage at CinemaCon
The Scotland shoot follows Amazon MGM’s CinemaCon debut of the first Highlander footage, where Henry Cavill introduced the preview and confirmed the movie is well underway.
The footage teased the large scope of the reboot, with immortals moving across centuries toward The Gathering, along with action scenes, elaborate costumes, and a big-screen fantasy tone.
It also featured Cavill as Connor MacLeod, Dave Bautista as Kurgan, and Russell Crowe as Ramirez.
Now, with Gillan revealed on set as Heather, fans are getting a better idea of how the reboot is balancing the emotional story from the original with the franchise’s larger mythology.
