HBO has officially cast the lead roles for its new Harry Potter television series. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. All three are newcomers to the screen.
Casting Chosen After Global Search
According to showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, the casting team reviewed tens of thousands of auditions before selecting the trio. The team was led by Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann. Gardiner and Mylod said they were impressed with the young actors’ talent and chemistry.
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” said Gardiner and Mylod. “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

A Faithful Adaptation of the Books
The new Harry Potter series is being pitched as a direct adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s book series. Each season will follow one of the books closely. HBO Max will be the exclusive streaming home for the series, including new territories such as Germany, Italy, and the UK once the platform expands there.
The original Warner Bros. Harry Potter films will still be available to stream globally.
