Harry Potter Series Reveals First Look At Dominic McLaughlin, Nick Frost: Now Filming

The new Harry Potter TV series has officially started production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK. HBO is behind the show, which will stream on HBO and HBO Max in 2027, including in new launch markets like Germany, Italy, and the UK.

HBO revealed a first look at actor Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter and announced four new cast members.

New Cast Members

Four more actors have been added to the growing ensemble:

  • Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom
  • Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley
  • Louise Brealey as Madam Hooch
  • Anton Lesser as Ollivander

They join the previously announced trio: Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), and Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley).

Familiar Wizarding Families

Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd) will play Molly Weasley. The Malfoys are represented by Lox Pratt as Draco and Johnny Flynn as Lucius. Over at Privet Drive, Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby have been cast as Petunia and Vernon Dursley.

More Hogwarts Students

Three additional Hogwarts classmates have been revealed including Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown.

These roles round out the Gryffindor crew alongside Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville.

Ministry of Magic

Bertie Carvel will play Cornelius Fudge, the Minister for Magic, a recurring character who figures into the politics of the wizarding world in the later books.

The new Harry Potter cast includes established names in key supporting roles:

  • Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
  • Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall
  • Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
  • Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell (recurring)
  • Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch (recurring)

Behind the Scenes

Francesca Gardiner is writing the series and also serves as executive producer. Mark Mylod will direct several episodes and executive produce as well. J.K. Rowling returns as executive producer along with Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts (Brontë Film and TV), and David Heyman (Heyday Films).

The Harry Potter series will debut on HBO and HBO Max in 2027. The original film series remains available globally.
