Green Lantern HBO Max Series Canceled Claims DC Insider

It’s claimed the Green Lantern HBO Max series has been canceled by Warner Bros. Discovery and CEO David Zaslav, which follows the news of the Batgirl cancellation.

Consider this a rumor, but Twitter user Greatphase, who reportedly has leaked info in the past, claims the Green Lantern HBO Max series was actually canned a while ago:

I’m also pretty certain the Green Lantern HBOmax series was canned a while ago. Will be interesting to see what else is canned and moving forward.

Green Lantern too big for Warner Bros. Discovery and CEO David Zaslav?

The news wouldn’t be that surprising as it seems Warner Bros. Discovery and CEO David Zaslav are cutting costs, and it’s probably safe to say the Green Lantern HBO Max series has a pretty big budget due to all the special effects.

In development at HBO Max also includes the two spinoffs from Matt Reeves’ The Batman, so as noted, it will be interesting to see what the future holds (James Gunn Peacemaker is safe); Thursday does see Warner Bros. Discovery report its Q2 earnings (said to include massive layoffs) so maybe we’ll learn more about DC.

The Green Lantern series was also first announced almost two years ago and there hasn’t been much said since other than in May that the first two episodes have a director, and there was no mention of the show at the recent San Diego Comic-Con where Zaslav cut DC’s budget at the convention big time where DC didn’t even have a presence on the floor while normally DC has a huge display featuring its comic book and movie projects.

Details for the Green Lantern series include it was given a ten-episode order for HBO Max and hails from HBO Max, DC, Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and Geoff Johns, with the series co-written and executive produced by Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim, with Grahame-Smith serving as showrunner.  Jeremy Irvine is said to be playing Alan Scott, with Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner:

From HBO Max, DC, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television comes a bold adaptation of the iconic comic book franchise, a saga spanning decades and galaxies. Green Lantern will depict the adventures of a multitude of Lanterns, including Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and Alan Scott — Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man — and many more. The series will also include fan favorites such as Sinestro and Kilowog, and will also introduce new heroes to the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps.

An HBO Max exec previously offered that the series is “going to span several decades [focusing] on two stories about Green Lanterns on Earth” as well as one in space “going into the Sinestro story.”
