Behind the movie
As previously announced, Grant Sputore is directing this time around, taking over from Adam Wingard, who directed the two previous Godzilla/Kong films, and is now directing A24’s action thriller, Onslaught.
“Well this is (literal) HUGE news,” said Sputore on Instagram back in June of last year when he was announced as director. “It’s also a huge honour. I’ve been a giant monster fan for as long as I’ve been a fan of anything – and to follow in the footsteps of the other incredible directors who’ve had their turn in the MonsterVerse is a dream come true. Can’t thank Legendary enough for this Titan sized opportunity.”
Dave Callaham is writing the script.
Release info
The untitled Godzilla / Kong movie has a March 26, 2027, release date.
The MonsterVerse’s legacy
Legendary’s MonsterVerse kicked off in 2014 with Godzilla and has since pulled in over $2.5 billion worldwide, thanks to hits like Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). The franchise also expanded to Apple TV+ with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which has a second season on the way.
