Fortnite and Star Wars collide again, but this time it’s bigger — and stranger — than ever.
At Star Wars Celebration Japan, Lucasfilm and Epic Games have announced Fortnite: Galactic Battle, a new Fortnite Battle Royale season launching May 2, just ahead of Star Wars Day.
The event was revealed during Star Wars Celebration Japan with actor Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks, Jedi Master Kelleran Beq) taking the stage to introduce the new trailer and drop some unexpected news: Darth Jar Jar is coming. Watch the trailer below.
Darth Jar Jar Is Real — And He’s Got Force Lightning
Long a meme among fans, the Darth Jar Jar theory is now getting a full send-up in Fortnite. The trailer shows the Gungan wielding Force Lightning, and Best shared how excited he is to see the character reimagined in-game — especially since he plays Fortnite with his son.
This marks the first time Darth Jar Jar has officially appeared in any Star Wars-licensed content. Due to a deleted scene that seemingly connects to the Dark Side, fans think Jar Jar Binks has been working with Palpatine all along.
Five Weeks of Star Wars Gameplay
Galactic Battle isn’t just a one-time drop. It rolls out as a five-part Fortnite Battle Royale season running through early June, with each week featuring new themed gameplay pulled from different Star Wars eras.

- Imperial Takeover – May 2
- The Pull of the Force – May 8
- Mandalorian Rising – May 22
- Star Destroyer Bombardment – May 29
- Death Star Sabotage – June 7
Each phase will introduce fresh content, building toward an in-game narrative live event.
What You Can Expect
The crossover goes deep. Here’s what’s confirmed:
- Star Wars-themed Battle Pass with Emperor Palpatine and new mashups like Wookiee Cuddle Team Leader
- Mace Windu joins the Item Shop
- X-Wings and TIE Fighters are flyable — including co-pilot options
- Themed map locations reflecting different corners of the galaxy
- Weekly changes and additional surprises to come
Cosplayers and Celebration
To cap off the Celebration stage announcement, Best was joined by a group of Wookiee Team Leader cosplayers — a nod to the character’s new skin featured in the event. They later took to the convention floor to promote the season’s launch.
