With A Minecraft Movie exploding at the box office and blowing away all expectations, just as I said, the success of the flick could usher in a new era of “meme” movies. So how about a Fortnite movie, arguably one of – if not – the biggest video game of all time?
That’s exactly what a rumor claims as Daniel RPK has tweeted then deleted his tweet how there has already been talk of a Fortnite movie but that some studios passed on the film.
Worth a mention is that Disney is a stakeholder in Epic Games, so it would seem likely a Fortnite movie would come from Disney is my guess.

What does the Fortnite movie rumor say?
Back to the rumor, Daniel RPK, who is more known for getting production scoops correct, as he’s obviously given production and casting info, tweeted then deleted, “You just know Fortnite is next. There was already talk of a Fortnite movie, but some studios passed on it. That’s obviously gonna change now.”
The tweet was spotted by Epic Game CEO Tim Sweeney, who shot that rumor down right away: “False.”
Daniel RPK attempted to save face mentioning something about Sony passing on a Fortnite movie, but of course, Sweeney didn’t bother replying (take the “L” Daniel RPK, I replied, lol).

More meme movies on the way?
Obviously, with A Minecraft Movie being such a success, there is going to be a lot of “talk” amongst studios about similar-type films, but it doesn’t necessarily mean all of them will happen.
Of course, I think it is safe to assume similar follow-up films will happen that try to take advantage of “memes” going viral on social media. Minecraft is seeing big success thanks to a marketing campaign where fans take video and react to the various scenes in the movie and share them on social media.

A Minecraft Movie opened this weekend to $163 million in the U.S. and over $313M worldwide. It’s the third-best opening for Warner Bros. and passes Super Mario‘s opening for the largest opening ever for a video game adaptation.
