Back at the end of August, I was told Bryan Cranston was cast as Lex Luthor in the Batman Vs. Superman movie with the big announcement coming after the series finale of Breaking Bad.
Well, that never happened.
I contacted my trusted source close to Warner Bros. inquiring if Warner Bros. may have gotten cold feet as a result of the leak.
Turns out it wasn’t Warner Bros.
Bryan Cranston has chosen not to take the role of Lex Luthor in Batman Vs. Superman.
I’m told there was a verbal agreement in place as Warner Bros. offered Cranston the role.
That’s when I was told Cranston was cast.
Now I have learned that Cranston has decided not to take the role of Lex Luthor and instead concentrate on theater. I’m told Bryan Cranston wants to do theater and wants to get away from villains (for now), now that Breaking Bad is over. I’m told Cranston just took a 2-year-long theater gig.
Originally, I was going to post this information on Monday, waiting for the end of the NYCC, but it recently became known today that Cranston’s Lyndon B. Johnson play, All The Way, will be headed to Broadway in the Winter.

The show ends its run today, October 12 in Cambridge. Next, it will open on Broadway, with star Cranston moving with the show this winter.

Producer Jeffrey Richards recently stated that he is aiming for a winter Broadway arrival for All The Way, but a theatre is not currently in place.
Batman Vs. Superman is said to begin production next February.
My source informed me Warner Bros. STRONGLY wants Mark Strong as Lex Luthor, but possibly due to his new TV series, Low Winter Sun, that may not be an option.
So it could be back to the drawing board.
Interestingly enough, a name on their wishlist for Lex Luthor is Benedict Cumberbatch.
I mentioned he’s rumored for Star Wars, with the reply being WISHlist, which makes me think Cumberbatch is a lock for Star Wars.
I think Cranston would have made an amazing Lex Luthor, but I’m sure whoever they get for the role will be just as great.
The sequel to “Man of Steel” goes into production next year for a July 17, 2015 release starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.
