We learned a couple weeks ago that Ultron will not be a part of Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man movie as well as that for The Avengers 2 Hank Pym will not be a part of the robotic villain’s origin.
Now Edgar Wright mentions that Ultron was never a part of his Ant-Man movie script in that it would be too complicated to introduce the hero/villain pair.
However, in stating so, Wright did give a big clue as to the identity of the Ant-Man movie villain, in that similar to Jon Favreau’s Iron Man, the villain uses the hero’s technology.
“It was never in my script,” Wright told The Huffington Post. “Because even just to sort of set up what Ant-Man does is enough for one movie. It’s why I think Iron Man is extremely successful because it keeps it really simple. You have one sort of — the villain comes from the hero’s technology. It’s simple. So I think why that film really works and why, sometimes, superhero films fail — or they have mixed results — because they have to set up a hero and a villain at the same time. And that’s really tough. And sometimes it’s unbalanced.”
We see that Wright specifically mentions “the villain comes from the hero’s technology,” which can’t help but bring up the fact that Scott Lang stole Ant-Man tech to save his daughter in the comic books — of course with a host of other bad guys thrown in to add to the drama.
Ant-Man has a November 6, 2015 release.
