Marvel's Fantastic Four Set To Bomb: $200M Budget, Barely Breaks Even

The Fantastic Four: First Steps looks to be another confirmed bomb, as reports offer – just like Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts – the film will be a bust and potentially lose Disney money.

Disney named both Cap 4 and Thunderbolts in recent investor reports as confirmed big busts.

Box office bust

According to the latest estimates, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will finish at the box office with $500M-$510M globally.

In its fourth weekend domestically, the flick brought in $8.8M, which is another drop of 44.3%, on top of the previous drops of 59.2% and 67.1%.

And again, it’s also well under Thunderbolts‘ fourth weekend of $9,691,478, which finished as the second-worst-performing MCU movie of all time.

FF Current Grosses:

  • Domestic (52.7%): $247,037,549
  • International (47.3%): $221,700,000
  • Worldwide: $468,737,549

Budget vs break-even number

The budget has been reported to be $200M, which means its break-even number is $500M.

However, it’s thought the budget is actually a lot higher due to all the reshoots, and if that is the case, the break-even number would be even higher.

Regardless, if we go by the originally reported budget, that means The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be lucky to break even and means it’s another bomb from Kevin Feige that makes Disney no money.

2005 fantastic four

Won’t even beat the 2005 FF movie

Feige’s First Steps will also fail to beat the first Fantastic Four movie released in 2005 when adjusted for inflation ($551,705,665.17).

What it reveals is that more fans went to see the 2015 FF than the new one.

Bust was expected

I think it’s clear that Marvel and Feige knew their Fantastic Four was going to bust.

They completely skipped out on Comic-Con and pushed the releases of both Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars further back and away from the failed releases of Cap 4, Thunderbolts, and now FF.

Feige is also reportedly bringing in the big guns to save the MCU, with Ryan Reynolds back as Deadpool.

Rumors also suggest that Hugh Jackman will be back as Wolverine.

Pair them with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, and it should easily hit a billion.
