More bad news for Marvel TV as following the possible news that Marvel’s Inhumans may be a one-and-done, now it’s being said their equivalent to The Avengers – Marvel’s Defenders – is the least watched Marvel show on Netflix.
The analysis actually states that Defenders was only watched by 17% of the viewership that Daredevil Season 2 received, which was the high for any of the Marvel Netflix series.
For comparison, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones accounted for 28%, 27% and 26% of Daredevil season 2’s viewership, respectively.
It’s further noted that in addition to Defenders being the least-viewed of the Marvel Netflix shows, Defenders also had the largest week-over-week drop in viewership, declining by 67%, 48% and 41%, respectively, over the 30-day period.
The article does note that Netflix does not reveal its streaming data, which leaves estimates to be gauged by third parties, and Netflix execs often question the validity of these estimates.
Another possibility for the low performance of Defenders could have to do with it debuting in the Summer compared to Daredevil Season 2 debuting in March.
Of course, as I stated in my review, Defenders wasn’t all that good, so word-of-mouth may have played a factor.
Up next for Marvel on Netflix is Punisher, which is highly anticipated and interestingly enough debuted during Daredevil Season 2, so the series could potentially be Marvel and Netflix’s best yet.
