Is the hierarchy of power in the Marvel Cinematic Universe about the change?!
In a surprising move – considering Ryan Reynolds told fans to stop with the spoilers – a new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer spoils a big cameo role in the movie.
Ryan Reynolds also brings out the big guns and teases The Avengers on social media.
Deadpool & Wolverine hype fading because of Superman?
Speaking of guns, all the talk as of late has been about James Gunn filming his Superman movie.
Now out comes the spoiler cameo and The Avengers for Deadpool & Wolverine? Coincidence???
I can’t help but think of when Dwayne Johnson spoiled the Henry Cavill Superman cameo in Black Adam prior to that film’s release. Obviously, that was an attempt – and a failed one at that – to hype the movie among fans and increase ticket sales.
Will it work for Ryan Reynolds? The cameo in the trailer below is a character nearly 25 years old and hasn’t been seen since. The younger fans might not have a clue. It didn’t work out for X-Men ’97.
Ticket sales just okay?
Ticket sales for Deadpool & Wolverine have been said to be okay — and by okay, I mean just the best for an R-rated movie and not better than Spider-Man, The Avengers, or by the looks of things, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s known that first-day pre-sales were about half of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which opened to $260 million back in 2021.
Estimates offer Deadpool & Wolverine will open to $200 million, and it seems anything short of that sounds like a failure. I think regardless of the opening, Deadpool & Wolverine has to have good legs as it’s hoped the film brings in a billion dollars which Marvel Studios hasn’t achieved since Avengers: Endgame in 2019 (Spidey movies are Sony).
Fans are no dummies
There has been worry that that box office is dead and there’s both Hollywood and superhero fatigue, but in the case of the former, Inside Out 2 shuts down those worries. It proves that fans will come out for quality content and that, yes, they want to go to the movie theaters. However, provide them with garbage content and they’ll find something else to do.
Deadpool & Wolverine follows a string of failures from Marvel and the massive failure of Phases 4 and 5 under Kevin Feige. Marvel needs a win, and if Deadpool & Wolverine doesn’t pan out, the MCU is toast.
If they announce Shawn Levy directing Avengers 5 prior to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, I’d be worried: Recall how DC announced Andy Muschietti on Gunn’s Batman prior to the release of The Flash movie — yikes!
Deadpool & Wolverine gets released on July 26 directed by Shawn Levy starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
