DCU Lanterns: Garret Dillahunt Joins Series In Major Role

James Gunn’s DCU Lanterns series continues casting as Garret Dillahunt, known for his roles in Fear the Walking Dead and High Potential, has been cast in a major recurring role. He joins leads Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, alongside the recently cast series regular Kelly Macdonald.

Lanterns, co-created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, follows interstellar law enforcement officers Hal Jordan and new recruit John Stewart as they investigate a murder mystery rooted in the American heartland.

Dillahunt will play modern cowboy William Macon, a self-righteous, conspiracy-minded man who masks his ruthless ambition behind a charming and calculated facade. Macdonald is playing Sheriff Kerry in the show.

The eight-episode series is produced by HBO in partnership with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, with Mundy serving as showrunner. Lindelof and King co-wrote the series and are also executive producers, while James Hawes directs and executive produces the first two episodes.

Garret Dillahunt, is currently starring in the off-Broadway play Shit. Meet. Fan., and is also appearing in Peacock’s Hysteria. He’s also known for 12 Years A Slave, Deadwood, Justified, and more.

“Very grounded series” says James Gunn

James Gunn recently touched upon the Lanterns series last month at the NYCC.

“Chris, Damon, and Tom have put this thing together. It’s another project that’s been blessed from the beginning,” explained James Gunn at the recent NYCC. “It’s something when we first started the DCU, in the first couple weeks of heading this up, we got together with a group of of writers, and Tom King was one of those writers.

Gunn continued, “And we were in this room, and we came up with sort of this concept for Lanterns, and then we got Chris and Damon involved, and it just kind of has come out very easily, very naturally, it’s a much more — it’s a very grounded series, a very real series which is strange to say in a Green Lantern show but it’s going to be something like nobody’s ever seen before, and I can’t wait for people to catch it on HBO when it comes out.”
