David Corenswet Jokes ‘Superman’ Needs ‘More Negativity’

Following their CinemaCon presentation which showed off new footage, the cast of the upcoming Superman movie and James Gunn spoke with Fandango about the film.

David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult and Gunn explain the differences between the three characters and what makes them unique.

The interview started off with Hoult joking that Lex hates everything, which saw Corenswet jokingly add, “This is just what this film needs is a little more negativity.”

James Gunn Superman: First Look At Krypto

Krypto / Superman relationship

Details revealed include that Superman and Krypto don’t have such a man’s best friend relationship, as Krypto is kind of a pain.

Corenswet said:

He loves dogs, as you know most people do but, Krypto, as James has described is the worst dog in the world with superpowers. So he’s always destroying the Fortress of Solitude and hunting wildlife and just always getting into trouble, never listening. And although there’s a great love and affection between Superman and [Krypto], it’s honestly more trouble than it’s worth.”

Superman / Lois relationship

It’s also revealed that Superman and Lois aren’t exactly in a relationship, as the film takes place when the two basically start dating. While Clark seems to be infatuated with Lois, Lois isn’t apparently sold yet on Clark. The two share vastly different views, as Lois has a more realistic point of view, while Superman sees the good in everyone and is more optimistic.

Gunn said:

I think it comes down to a basic philosophical difference He believes that the the sanctity of life is of the utmost importance, no matter what you do not let anyone die ever. She is a utilitarian. She believes that you want to do the most good for the most people no matter how you do that, and she can see that that’s not always the case.

First Look At Nicolas Hoult as Lex Luthor

Lex believes the end justify the means

It’s also explained that Lex comes from the belief that the ends justify the means from looking at things scientifically, which obviously in is in stark contrast to Superman’s beliefs.

Gunn said:

Lex believes in scientific inquiry in the same way Superman believes in life. He’ll give up anything to learn something new about science. He’ll let people die. He’ll let anything happen because science is what matters, and taking that next stepm even if it’s going to destroy the entire planet, he wouldn’t have any of the guilt.
