The Dark Knight Rises Getting An Oscar? Don’t Think So

First of all, anyone who attacked any of the negative reviews for The Dark Knight Rises before they even saw it, owes those reviewers an apology.

Sorry, The Dark Knight Rises just wasn’t that good.

And for the folks who are describing it as “epic.” I mean come on. Really?

And then there are even those who were (are?) saying the movie is an Oscar contender.

And then I just laughed out loud.

Seems I’m not the only one as a special screening was held for Oscar voters on Saturday night at the Samuel Goldwyn theatre in Beverly Hills.

The Dark Knight Rises didn’t go over too well.

One Academy member told THR, “people were kind of disappointed. It wasn’t because of (Colorado). I just don’t think that this picture will get any nominations (beyond technical nods).”

“There was nothing remarkable about the acting,” still another said. “I don’t think it can be nominated as best picture.”

Bret Easton Ellis, described as a high-profile member, even went on Twitter with, “Not that it really matters, but there was zero love for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ at the packed Academy screening in Los Angeles tonight.”

Reading the different reviews on various sites, most seem to agree there was an issue with the way the film was put together, the lack of Batman, and the ending. True, the movie was grandiose and epic in design, but IMHO, it just failed to deliver. Of course director Christopher Nolan set himself up with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, two great movies, so fans were expecting something along those lines. But what we ended up getting was nothing close.

The Dark Knight Rises opens in theaters July 20th, 2012 and is directed by Christopher Nolan starring Christian Bale as Batman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, Michael Cain as Alfred, Juno Temple and Josh Pence as a young Ra’s al Ghul.

Really, after walking out of the theater, my first thought that they were just running through the motions with this one.
