Daisy Ridley Star Wars: Takes Rey On ‘Jedi Academy’ Adventure Says Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who has been tasked by Kathleen Kennedy to helm the new Daisy Ridley Star Wars movie, rumored titled “A New Beginning,” talks about the film and offers it takes Rey on a Jedi Academy adventure.

In a recent interview with SiriusXM, Obaid-Chinoy shared her excitement and vision for the project.

“This world that they want young viewers to sort of walk into and have an understanding of the world, at the heart of it, for me, is Rey Skywalker,” Obaid-Chinoy said. “It’s Daisy Ridley and her story, and taking her on an adventure to a Jedi Academy, and sort of creating a world that is a natural dovetail to the story that we’ve seen her go through in the last three episodes.”

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy says she is working closely with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and the creative team, and has even talked with George Lucas, to focus on bringing the characters “that everyone loves and has fallen in love with” to life while introducing new ones for the next generation.

“I’ve had conversations with JJ Abrams, George Lucas, and Dave Filoni, who’s a big part of the Star Wars universe now,” she says. “We speak very often, and Kathy Kennedy, Carrie Beck, and Simon Emanuel – I think the team is really taking time to make sure that we do justice to telling the story of Daisy.”

Reflecting on Rey’s journey through Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, Obaid-Chinoy emphasized the significance of her character.

“I think that she stands for something. We’ve seen this wonderful journey she went on in Episode VII, VIII, and IX, and now it’s on to the next adventure. How do we create a world and the adventure that we take her on?” she says.

The untitled Star Wars movie doesn’t have a release date, and the script is not yet finished.
