Constantine 2 Has Been Pitched To James Gunn Reveals Keanu Reeves

Keanu Reeves confirms Constantine 2 has been pitched to DC Studios and is ready to move forward to the script stage.

Interestingly enough, the timing lines up with reports filmmakers recently had meetings with Gunn this week and that a major DC Studios announcement will happen next week.

Among those filmmakers includes James Watkins on the Clayface movie. Gunn also happened to post a photo of himself with Zack Snyder which is leading to speculation Zack is back at DC.

What did Keanu Reeves say?

Speaking with Inverse, Reeves revealed the Constantine 2 script is ready to be written which sees him reteam with original director Francis Lawrence.

We’ve been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’” Reeves said. “So, we’re going to try and write a script.

We’re not going off that,” he joked, “John Constantine’s going to be tortured even more.

Constantine 2 details

Keanu Reeves and Francis Lawrence also talked about Constantine 2 with Josh Horowitz revealing their excitement.

Akiva (Goldsman) is writing and Keanu and Akiva and I have been collaborating, and I think we have some really, really great ideas that we’re super super excited about,” Lawrence said. “I think we’re pretty close on having an object that is really workable.

Lawrence continued, “All I know is that we’re really excited, and I haven’t felt this excited about the object and this excited about how real it could be in the twenty years since we made the first one, so it has real possibility.”

Reeves added, “I’m aching to play this guy.”

What is Constantine 2 about?

Francis Lawrence wouldn’t reveal specific details but said there is room for returning characters from the first movie, which was released in 2005, and that similarly, it will be a personal story for Constantine.

I will say, what was always important to me—and one of the things I really loved about the first movie—was that the drive for John Constantine was very personal,” he said. “This isn’t just a ‘guy’s got to save the world’ kind of thing. We had to find a way to make it a deeply personal story because, by nature, John Constantine is quite a selfish guy—which is part of what I love about him. That was key. But yeah, I don’t want to tease too much.”

Lawrence added, “It’s a really fun character to revisit, and there’s a great world to dive back into. A lot will feel familiar, but there will also be plenty that’s new, different, and surprising. It definitely feels like a worthy next chapter.
