Bret Hart just made the most explosive claim of his career.
During a recent appearance on YouTube, Hart said he now believes Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels were sleeping together during the time of the Montreal Screwjob.
According to Bret, the behavior he witnessed, the emotional displays, and the way both men acted around each other made him “suspect” something deeper was going on.
Bret Says He Was “Caught Between Two Lovers”
Hart took it even further, saying he now believes he was “caught between two lovers.” According to him, Shawn wanted his spot, and Vince protected Shawn to the point that Bret thinks Michaels “slept with Vince to get it.”
He said he would repeat it directly to both of them and has “100%” conviction in his belief.
“I remember watching it and going, I think there’s more going on here between these two guys honestly. And I’m I’m not trying to be, I’m just being honest and blunt, but I don’t know. I suspected, and now I really have serious… I think that Shawn and Vince were sleeping with each other.”
“I honestly… I’m not I’m just telling you… I think I’m very close to the truth here. Sean and Vince were lovers. I’m being dead honest. I’m telling you… When I look back, it’s like I got caught between two lovers, you know, and I got shafted and screwed over. Sean was so envious and jealous of my position that he finally had to sleep with Vince to get it.”
“And I tell you, I say all this with absolute… I would say it to Shawn if he was right here. I would actually like to have Sean come clean and say, ‘Look, we were lovers.’ Cuz I’m sure they were.”
“I have absolute… 100%… If I saw either Vince or Sean here, I would say I think you guys were lovers.”
Ties Back Into the Screwjob
Hart used the moment to reflect on the betrayal of the Montreal Screwjob. He said his integrity never wavered, he always dealt honestly with Vince, and he believes the entire event was a long-planned effort to tear him down.
He also said the Screwjob was orchestrated by people who had no respect for him — and that Shawn telling him he wouldn’t “do the same thing” for him is what made him refuse to lose the title to Michaels.
Hart made clear the entire situation destroyed any trust left between them, and his belief that there was a hidden relationship only reinforces his perspective on how everything unfolded.
