Chadwick Boseman, Marvel’s Black Panther, chimes in on pretty much what most fans have come to realize regarding Batman Vs. Superman.
Boseman, in his opinion, tells Radio Times that Batman Vs. Superman basically had too much influence and input from too many different sources.
“I was there the first night to see Batman v Superman, got my popcorn and everything, and I’m not exactly sure what they did wrong, But I feel like sometimes you see a movie – and I could be wrong, or saying this because I’m in the industry – you can see that there’s at times [too] many people deciding something. That there’s not a clear voice from the director,” Boseman said. “Sometimes when you watch movies you see that the producers are saying something, someone else is saying something, the directors are saying something. And sometimes, it doesn’t work. I don’t know if that’s why it doesn’t resonate, if it’s because maybe the director didn’t get his cut, I have no way of knowing that. I just feel like, what I have experienced at Marvel is that the directors are very much making the movie. So maybe that’s it.”
Chadwick Boseman’s explanation doesn’t seem to be that far off as evidenced by the fact that Batman Vs. Superman Ultimate Edition cut is a lot better than the theatrical cut. Reportedly, WB brass wouldn’t let Zack Snyder go with his longer three-hour cut in theaters. In addition, it’s also known that certain producers are no longer influencing the DC movie universe brand following the disappointing reviews and box office for Batman Vs. Superman. Further changes made by WB include bringing Geoff Johns on as co-runner of the DC movies, and it’s even been said Ben Affleck is now producing Justice League.
Regarding Boseman’s statements about Marvel, I’m not even sure if that holds up, other than it more or less seems the Marvel directors are in tune with Kevin Feige’s vision. Most of the Marvel movies feature similar jokes, villains and outcome. They’re pretty much predictable “popcorn” movies, which is one thing you can’t say about the DC films.
Chadwick Boseman stars in the “Black Panther” movie which is out February 16, 2018 directed by Ryan Coogler.
