Bill Maher is back at it with some really dumb comments, which follow the death of Stan Lee.
Of course, for some odd reason, he doesn’t complain about appearing in Iron Man 3 or the pay he received for doing it, right?
The latest sees Larry King questioning Bill Maher about his previous comments, which made light of the death of Stan Lee and Lee’s fans and comics.
Bill Maher does sort of backtrack as he says he really doesn’t have a problem with Stan Lee, though Maher says he is “agnostic on Stan Lee,” but Maher says the reaction to his comments proves his point.
“Talk about making my point for me,” Maher said. “Yeah, I don’t know very much about Stan Lee and it certainly wasn’t a swipe at Stan Lee…I am agnostic on Stan Lee. I don’t read comic books. I didn’t even read them when I was a child. What I was saying is: A culture that thinks that comic books and comic book movies are profound meditations on the human condition is a dumb f—ing culture. And for people to, like, get mad at that just proves my point.”
Following the death of Stan Lee, Bill Maher wrote in part on his blog, “The guy who created Spider-Man and the Hulk has died, and America is in mourning. Deep, deep mourning for a man who inspired millions to, I don’t know, watch a movie, I guess,” he wrote. “Someone on Reddit posted, ‘I’m so incredibly grateful I lived in a world that included Stan Lee.’ Personally, I’m grateful I lived in a world that included oxygen and trees, but to each his own.”

Eman’s Movie Reviews wrote: “Bill STILL doesn’t get it. The problem with his comment is the fact that Bill is flaunting his ignorance despite acknowledging it. If you actually read the comics, then you would know how they have touched on some of the most practical and real aspects of society, even through the lens of fantasy. Comics touch on the human story, bullying, racism, politics, science, relationships, and so much more. Bill your ignorance is the problem, not the fandom’s reaction, nor is there any type of misunderstanding of what you were saying. You literally don’t know what you’re talking about, and to criticize what you don’t know makes you sound incredibly stupid.”
Oscar Sanchez wrote: “The comic book format gave us stuff like V for Vendetta and Watchmen shrugs There are plenty of examples of “profundity” in the medium and you don’t even have to dig that far. The fact that Bill admits to knowing little-nothing about comics proves the point of his detractors: that he’s a smarmy dork lol. How can someone with sparse knowledge about comics make a value judgment about them, let alone link an entire subculture’s existence to Trump winning? There are a lot of reasons he won and it has more to do with people like Bill than it does with comic books.”
