Bill Maher is back at it with some really dumb comments, which follow the death of Stan Lee.
Of course, for some odd reason, he doesnât complain about appearing in Iron Man 3 or the pay he received for doing it, right?
The latest sees Larry King questioning Bill Maher about his previous comments, which made light of the death of Stan Lee and Leeâs fans and comics.
Bill Maher does sort of backtrack as he says he really doesnât have a problem with Stan Lee, though Maher says he is âagnostic on Stan Lee,â but Maher says the reaction to his comments proves his point.
âTalk about making my point for me,â Maher said. âYeah, I donât know very much about Stan Lee and it certainly wasnât a swipe at Stan LeeâŠI am agnostic on Stan Lee. I donât read comic books. I didnât even read them when I was a child. What I was saying is: A culture that thinks that comic books and comic book movies are profound meditations on the human condition is a dumb fâing culture. And for people to, like, get mad at that just proves my point.â
Following the death of Stan Lee, Bill Maher wrote in part on his blog, âThe guy who created Spider-Man and the Hulk has died, and America is in mourning. Deep, deep mourning for a man who inspired millions to, I donât know, watch a movie, I guess,â he wrote. âSomeone on Reddit posted, âIâm so incredibly grateful I lived in a world that included Stan Lee.â Personally, Iâm grateful I lived in a world that included oxygen and trees, but to each his own.â

Emanâs Movie Reviews wrote: âBill STILL doesnât get it. The problem with his comment is the fact that Bill is flaunting his ignorance despite acknowledging it. If you actually read the comics, then you would know how they have touched on some of the most practical and real aspects of society, even through the lens of fantasy. Comics touch on the human story, bullying, racism, politics, science, relationships, and so much more. Bill your ignorance is the problem, not the fandomâs reaction, nor is there any type of misunderstanding of what you were saying. You literally donât know what youâre talking about, and to criticize what you donât know makes you sound incredibly stupid.âï»ż
Oscar Sanchez wrote: âThe comic book format gave us stuff like V for Vendetta and Watchmen shrugs There are plenty of examples of âprofundityâ in the medium and you donât even have to dig that far. The fact that Bill admits to knowing little-nothing about comics proves the point of his detractors: that heâs a smarmy dork lol. How can someone with sparse knowledge about comics make a value judgment about them, let alone link an entire subcultureâs existence to Trump winning? There are a lot of reasons he won and it has more to do with people like Bill than it does with comic books.ï»żâ
