Ant-Man 2 opens next week and is confirmed to be set following the events of Captain America: Civil War, but before The Avengers: Infinity War.
In a sound bite interview video released by Marvel Studios (watch below), Evangeline Lilly talks about the ramifications of Captain America: Civil War, as well as why Hope van Dyne has a new suit in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Regarding the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, which saw Ant-Man head off to Germany and get arrested without Wasp, Evangeline Lilly reveals as a result, Hope and Scott are no longer together.
“Where we pick up with the second film, they were doing the kissing thing for a little while, and they were in a committed relationship, loved each other,” Lilly said. “And then Scott ran off to Germany and had a costume party on a tarmac and decided that he didn’t care if that affected our lives or if that ruined our life, and as a result got himself arrested. Since that point, we have no longer been an item.”
Regarding the new Wasp suit, fans have noted it’s different than the suit revealed at the end of the first Ant-Man movie, with Evangeline Lilly explaining why.
“The Wasp costume that you saw at the end of the first film was an old prototype from the 1980s; so people have been chattering online saying ‘wait a minute, the costume you seen Evangeline wearing looks totally different,'” Lilly explained. “And of course it does because technology has evolved, and I am a woman of 2017 not 1987, and I updated the suit with my father. We made a knew one based on the prototype that fit Hope’s needs for this day and age. I did four months of fittings to get that suit perfect. The one thing I told the costumer when we started was, ‘I don’t care how long it takes. I don’t care how long I have to be in this room with you, we will make this suit perfect.'”
