Following the huge success of the MCU’s No Way Home, Andrew Garfield just might return as Spider-Man.
The 41-year-old actor appeared on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz who asked Garfield about returning as Spider-Man.
Garfield, of course, didn’t exactly confirm he would be back as Spidey, but it seems there definitely have been talks and even that Garfield has his own ideas for a return.
“Your assumption is not… unfounded”
When Horowitz mentioned how it wouldn’t be surprising if Garfield had participated in discussions, Garfield deflected, saying, “Your assumption is not… unfounded.” He continued, “I can imagine going, ‘Yeah, he’s probably had conversations too.'”
No Way Home a huge success
Garfield then acknowledged how Horowitz would expect there to be ongoing talks due to the overwhelming success of No Way Home.
“I understand in your position, you’re going to be wondering if… because it was such a success, right?” Garfield teased as he took on the role of Horowitz, “‘Knowing Andrew… Andrew’s full of ideas, so he’s definitely expressed some of those.'”
Andrew Garfield plays coy about Spider-Man return
Despite the teasing, Garfield refused to give a direct answer when Horowitz, in his final attempt, asked whether he should “bet on ever seeing [Garfield] as Spider-Man again.”
“No matter what I say, I could be held liable for that,” responded Garfield with a laugh, ultimately declining to comment.
Spider-Man 4 and Secret Wars are in the works
Marvel does have Spider-Man 4 in the works with Tom Holland. Various rumors offer it’s either going to be more grounded and street-level, while it’s also said Kevin Feige is contemplating whether to make it another large cosmic-scale movie. Of course, Avengers: Secret Wars is also happening which is said to be a huge multiversal Marvel movie which would enable a return for Garfield as Spidey.
Earlier in the interview with Horowitz, Garfield also talked about returning for No Way Home where he discussed how he would only return if they did it right and it made sense (he particularly made note of liking the “catching MJ” scene). It’s probably safe to say that the same logic will apply if and when Garfield returns, which is certainly a good thing as it means fans will get a story done right.
Marvel hasn’t officially announced anything about Spider-Man 4. Tom Holland also said he will only return if it does justice to the character.
