Playing out exactly as I said, we see the Ahsoka ratings rebound following the release of the excellent Episode 4, as the numbers for Episode 5 have been released by Nielsen which features the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader.
Lucasfilm released the first two episodes of Ahsoka at the same time, which saw respectable viewing numbers; however, the episodes weren’t any good.
So fans tuned out Episode 3 which was also complete garbage and saw a big dip (and no, not because two episodes were released first), and then as a result, fans stopped watching and tuned out Episode 4, another dip.
However, Episode 4 was actually an excellent well-done episode (get Peter Ramsey on more Star Wars!), so guess what happened next?
Worth of mouth got out and fans tuned in and watched Episode 4 and then tuned in and watched Episode 5, which saw a ratings boost (Nielsen releases numbers for all the episodes released per week).
It’s exactly as I said: Simply give fans quality content and they will show up. I also said you can skip the first three episodes and start watching with Episode 4 and not miss a beat.
Nielsen released the Episode 5 numbers where we see the bump in ratings with 577 minutes viewed.
If you build it they will come
While the viewership numbers are still low, again due to the first three episodes being so terrible, it’s better than Episode 3’s 487 minutes and better than Episode 4’s big dip of 459 minutes (ironically, the best episode of the series).
Assuming the trend continues, Episode 6 could see another bump, as word of mouth likely also got out about the return of Hayden Christensen, Anakin, and Darth Vader, so that could mean more fans tuned in to watch Episodes 4-6.
While some fans have been on the fence regarding the series, highlights for me include Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll (I think they should recast), Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, and just imagine if Lars Mikkelsen returns as Grand Admiral Thrawn in Ahsoka Season 2 and decimates Disney Star Wars. I’d watch it twice.
