Director Todd Phillips celebrates the four-year release of the Joker movie by releasing a new look at Joaquin Phoenix in the sequel.
“Thanks for all the messages. Four years ago we had quite a ride. Lots of great memories. More to come,” posted Phillips on Instagram.

The first Joker movie was released on Oct. 4, 2019.
Why was Joker a wild ride?
Regarding the wild ride, Phillips previously revealed the uphill battle he went through to get Joker made as studio execs at WB at the time didn’t get the movie and some even questioned if it has to be about the Joker.
Rumors have also offered Jared Leto tried to kill the movie, as Leto was playing Joker in the DCEU.
There was also controversy surrounding the nature of the movie and the message it sent, which saw WB boot the liberal press from the Red Carpet premiere and only allow photographers.
The victims and families of The Dark Knight Rises shooting massacre also protested the flick, and threats against the movie actually saw the FBI and military respond.
However, in the end, it all worked out for WB, Phillips, and Phoenix, as Joker grossed over a billion dollars at the box office, much to everyone’s surprise.
The sequel is now happening and has cast Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.

What is Joker 2 about?
Rumors offer Joker 2 may be a musical, or possibly some of the Lady Gaga parts will feature the musical aspect, but nothing official has been announced.
The official title is Joker: Folie à Deux and the release date is October 4, 2024.
While no official description has been released, Folie à Deux, refers to a French term for a medical condition involving “madness for two,” so it’s guessed the sequel deals with Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, a female version of Joker who is just as crazy and dark as the Joaquin Phoenix version, which is suggested by set images and video.
The film is also separate and a part of its own universe and not attached to the upcoming James Gunn DCU.
