Russo Brothers Would Consider Jumping Ship To James Gunn's DCU

The Russo brothers offer up that they would consider jumping ship from Marvel to the DCU along with James Gunn.

Anthony and Joe Russo are the directors behind Marvel’s best and biggest films including the multibillion-dollar movies Avengers: Endgame, Infinity War, Captain America: Civil War, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

While the Russos have publicly stated they would like to direct Avengers: Secret Wars, Kevin Feige doesn’t want them for some reason, so how about joining James Gunn over at the DCU who also recruited Marvel Fox Logan director James Mangold who is doing Swamp Thing?

The Russo brothers fill in CB.com that they would be open to directing the Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie that is in development as part of Gunn’s DCU Chapter 1 “Gods and Monsters” plans.

“Obviously James over there running it, it would be a no-brainer,” Joe Russo said. “We love him to death. We love the direction he’s going to take that world in. You know he’s gonna be inventive with it. And favorite DC characters? I mean, man. There are so many good ones. I  always answer based on the comics I collected as a kid, and the two comics I collected the most were Spider-Man — actually, the three —  were Spider-Man. X-Men and Batman. But there have been a lot of iterations of Batman, so I feel like that’s an obvious answer.”

“But, you know, it’s hard not to answer that,” Anthony Russo added.  “Here’s how you know we haven’t actually gotten literal about it and specific about it is because, yeah, Batman would be my favorite character for my entire childhood. But obviously, it’s been well explored.”

Update: The Russos say they don’t want to direct Batman:

Russo Brothers talk with Zack Snyder about Justice League

Speaking of DC, the Russo Brothers recently talked to Justice League director Zack Snyder on their Pizza Film School YouTube channel show that gets released on Tuesday.

“Movie of the Week: Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” The Russos posted on Instagram. “The Russo Bros sat down with Zack Snyder for an extra special episode of #PizzaFilmSchool. Part 1 of the two-part discussion drops Tuesday, April 18th at 12am PT. Make sure you’ve done your homework and watched the Snyder Cut before listening to these directors totally geek out….”

James Gunn has also said he looks forward to working with his Guardians of the Galaxy actors again, so wouldn’t it be something if Gunn brings all the successful Marvel actors and creators along with him to the DCU?

Batman: The Brave and the Bold doesn’t have a director yet, so maybe the Russos would be the perfect fit.

The Russo Brothers also have their new Prime Video spy series coming out on April 28th with Citadel starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra. Check out the trailer below.
