Robert Pattinson Says ‘The Batman Part II’ Is “Very, Very Different” And Taking “Big Swings”

Robert Pattinson is finally talking a bit more about The Batman Part II, and his comments should get fans paying attention.

While on the red carpet for A24’s The Drama, Pattinson told Deadline that Matt Reeves has something big planned for the sequel. Pattinson said, “The script is extraordinary,” and added, “I think it’s going to be a really, really special movie and very, very different.” He also said the follow-up surprised him because it goes in a different direction from the first movie and takes “some big swings.”

Robert Pattinson Teases A Different Kind Of Sequel

That is probably the biggest takeaway here. Pattinson is not describing The Batman Part II as more of the same. He is making it clear this sequel is doing something different from the 2022 movie.

That lines up with how Matt Reeves handled the first film, which leaned into a noir detective style instead of just delivering another standard comic book blockbuster. Now Pattinson is teasing that Reeves is again pushing things in a new direction, which could mean a bigger character arc for Bruce Wayne, a more layered Gotham story, or a movie that takes more risks than fans are expecting.

Colin Farrell Also Calls The Script A “Masterwork”

Pattinson is not the only one hyping the sequel.

Colin Farrell, who plays Oz Cobb, recently told Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he thinks the script is “a masterwork” and even called it “a contemporary genre masterwork.” Farrell also said, “It’s so brilliant, and Robert has got such a lovely journey to go on and take the audience through.” He added that the script is dense, intelligent, deep, and detailed.

That is now two of the movie’s stars publicly selling the same idea: Reeves may have delivered something much bigger than a routine sequel.

Rumors Continue About The Cast

Along with the new comments from Pattinson, casting rumors are still floating around online.

Recent reports and rumor chatter claim Viggo Mortensen is being eyed for Christopher Dent, said to be the father of Harvey Dent, with Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson also mentioned in connection with the film. None of that appears to be officially confirmed, so for now it should be treated as rumor and nothing more.

Filming And Release Date

The Batman Part II is said to begin filming this spring, with multiple reports pointing to late May in London. Warner Bros. Discovery previously said the movie would begin filming in spring 2026, while the current release date remains October 1, 2027.

That means fans still have a long wait ahead, but the latest comments from Pattinson and Farrell make it sound like Reeves is trying to deliver something worth waiting for.

What Pattinson’s Comments Could Mean

The most interesting part of Pattinson’s quote is not just that he likes the script. Of course he is going to praise his own movie. It is that he says The Batman Part II is “very, very different” and is taking “big swings.”

That suggests Reeves is not playing it safe. After the first film built out this grounded Gotham, the sequel could go darker, deeper, or more emotionally intense. Farrell’s comments about Bruce having a strong journey also hint that this may be a much more character-driven sequel than fans are expecting.
