Freddie Stroma Says James Gunn Has Had “Zero Discussions” About Vigilante’s DCU Future

Freddie Stroma says he has no idea what happens next for Vigilante in the DCU, even after Peacemaker wrapped its second season on a cliffhanger and James Gunn signaled there are no current plans for Season 3.

Stroma was asked by The Direct if Gunn has spoken to him about his future, and the answer was blunt. Stroma said he has had “zero discussions” and insisted he genuinely does not know what comes next. He also said he hopes the cliffhanger gets resolved somehow, but added that he does not know if that would happen in another show, a movie, or somewhere else.

Freddie Stroma says he is completely in the dark

That is the latest sign Gunn still has not filled in the cast on where these characters go next.

Stroma’s comments stand out because fans have been wondering what happens to Vigilante and the rest of the crew after the Peacemaker Season 2 finale. Instead of teasing a return, Stroma made it clear he is just as much in the dark as everyone else.

For fans hoping Gunn already has a clear road map in place for Vigilante, this does not exactly inspire confidence. If Stroma knows nothing, it suggests whatever comes next either has not been locked in or Gunn is keeping everything close to the vest.

Peacemaker Season 3 is not happening right now

The bigger issue is that Gunn already said he is not planning a traditional Peacemaker Season 3 at this time. In interviews after the finale, Gunn said the ending was about setting up other DCU stories, not a third season, though he also left the door open with a “never say never” type of answer.

So while Peacemaker as a character may still factor into the DCU, the series itself appears done for now. That makes Stroma’s quote more notable because it backs up the idea that there is no obvious next step in place for Vigilante, at least not one the actor has been told about.

Ratings drop adds to the questions

The uncertainty also comes after Season 2 lost a big chunk of its audience over the course of the run. Reports last fall said viewership fell by nearly 40% from the premiere to the finale, which only added to the questions about whether the series would continue in the same format.

That does not mean the characters are gone for good. Gunn has made clear the future of these characters may play out elsewhere in the DCU. But as of now, Stroma is saying what a lot of fans probably suspected: nobody seems to know exactly where Vigilante fits next.

What this means for Vigilante

At the least, Stroma’s comments confirm there is no announced follow-up centered on Vigilante. The character became one of the breakout parts of Peacemaker, so leaving him in limbo is going to frustrate fans who expected the cliffhanger to lead right into another season.

For now, all fans have is Gunn saying the future lies in other DCU stories and Stroma saying he has not been told anything. That leaves Vigilante, and the rest of the Peacemaker crew, stuck in the same place as the audience: waiting to see if Gunn actually plans to resolve any of it.
