Netflix recently released a new teaser showcasing the potential lighter side of Hawkins, Indiana, but don’t let the teaser fool you as it is learned Stranger Things 3 will go darker.
Executive producer and writer on the series, Shawn Levy, also offers the season will even be more action-packed.
“That would be part of the store, but not at all representative of the season,” Levy teased. “There’s no question that, as you saw in that infomercial, Starcourt Mall is a part of season 3. As is summertime. So season 3 has a really healthy dose of poppy, bright levity and cultural fun. But I can only promise you that season 3 eventually goes places that are darker, and unquestionably more action-packed, than we’ve ever gone before.”

While foodcourts and summer sound like a lot of fun, Levy again says it isn’t the case (via playlist).
“It would be a mistake for anyone to think that season 3 is the summer of fun and lightness because it’s a whole lot more than that,” Levy said.
Levi also stated in a previous interview: “[It’s] definitely going to yet darker still, places that I think audiences are going to really love. It’s got so much heart and humor.”

While not much is known about the darker and more action-packed storyline for Stranger Things 3, Levy previously offered the season will feature a new big bad.
“We’re not going to put Will through hell for a third season in a row,” Levy said in a previous interview. “He’ll be dealing with stuff, but he won’t be at rock bottom the way we forced the amazing Noah Schnapp to play… We’re [going to be] dealing with forces of evil that are new.”
Last month also saw it learned that Stranger Things 3 will be delayed, which is until next Summer, as they want to get the show right, with Netflix’s VP of original content, Cindy Holland, offering the upcoming season is going to rock.
“It’s a handcrafted show. The Duffer brothers and Shawn Levy have worked really hard, and they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so they really want to take the time to get it right,” Holland said. “It’s going to be a fantastic season. It’s gonna be worth the wait.”
David Harbour, who plays Chief Jim Hopper, also teased that Stranger Things 3 is related to the movies released in the year 1985.
“If you’re a real fan of Stranger Things and you really want to know, I would go look at the great films that were released in ’85, of which there were many, and just go down that list and think of the possibilities that we could be going with,” Harbour said. “I think it is a specific season to 1985, and so you’ll see references to that. We’re experimenting a lot this season, and we’re taking risks, and I hope that they pay off but they are risks. We’re going into territories we’ve never been to before, and it’s exciting.”
