Scooby-Doo on Netflix may have found its Fred, as Maxwell Jenkins is reportedly set to play the Mystery Inc. leader in the live-action series from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. The report follows news that Mckenna Grace has landed the role of Daphne.

Maxwell Jenkins Said To Be Playing Fred

According to a new report, Jenkins is the latest actor tied to the upcoming Scooby-Doo series at Netflix. Nothing has been formally announced by Netflix, but if the report is accurate, the Mystery Inc. lineup is starting to take shape.

Fred is expected to be part of the core group in the origin story, which centers on how the gang first came together and got pulled into their first major case.

Best Known For Netflix’s Lost In Space

Jenkins will be familiar to Netflix viewers from Lost in Space, where he played Will Robinson. He has grown up since that series, so he now fits the age range for a young live-action Fred a lot more than viewers may remember from that show.

He has also appeared in projects including Reacher, Arcadian, and Joe Bell.

What The Scooby-Doo Series Is About

The untitled Scooby-Doo series tells the origin of Mystery Inc. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get caught up in a mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder.

They then team with Velma, described as pragmatic and scientific, and Freddy, described as a strange but handsome new kid. The case pulls all of them into a nightmare that threatens to expose their secrets.

The Cast Is Starting To Come Together

With Mckenna Grace reportedly playing Daphne and Maxwell Jenkins now said to be Fred, Netflix appears to be locking in two key members of the gang. That leaves Shaggy and Velma still to be revealed.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg wrote the series and serve as showrunners. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman executive produce for Berlanti Productions, with Warner Bros. Television as the studio.
