Gareth Edwards Departs Godzilla 2

Following the news that the release date for Godzilla 2 has been pushed back, now we know why as director Gareth Edwards has exited the film.

Deadline reports Edwards has his eyes set on smaller scale projects following Godzilla and the Star Wars: Rogoe One movie.

According to the report, Edwards left Godzilla 2 on good terms with Legendary and Warner Bros. No new director has yet been named.

It’s also said Legendary has aquired the rights to Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah, which will be used to help set up a franchise centered on Monarch and anchored by Godzilla, King Kong and other famous creatures.

King Kong Vs. Godzilla is also in the works and will follow Godzilla 2.

Godzilla 2 will be released March 22, 2019, with Godzilla vs. King Kong on May 29, 2020.
