Kevin Feige On James Gunn, DC and Guardians of the Galaxy 3

While attending the recent Golden Globe awards, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is asked about James Gunn as well as the status of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which is currently on hold.

“I went to see Aquaman last night, and I really, really enjoyed it. And you know me, I’ve always supported, I don’t see a rivalry. I see cool films being made,” Feige told MTV. “One thing you know about James Gunn, he makes cool films. Guardians will happen. When, where, how… for a later time.”

Last Summer saw Disney fire James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and Marvel Studios over tweets that resurfaced from ten years ago joking about rape and pedophilia. Following celebrity and fan backlash, Disney refused to rehire James Gunn, who has since gone over to Warner Bros. to write and direct Suicide Squad 2.

Nebula actress Karen Gillan recently offered she read the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 script.

“Our director won’t be with us any longer but we are excited to continue the Guardians of the Galaxy story and keep delivering to the fans,” Gillan said. “That’s the most important thing. I don’t have any details as to when [the next Guardians film will come out] but there’s a script in existence. I may have had a little teeny peek, but I can’t say anything.”

It’s known that prior to getting fired that James Gunn finished the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 script, with it also being said Disney still plans on using it.

Regarding the search for a director, Adam McKay recently confirmed he talked to Marvel Studios about the possibility. It has also been said Bumblebee director Travis Knight is in talks for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, in addition to it rumored Marvel is looking for a female director.

The only plot details known include that the story takes place following The Avengers: Endgame.
