The official title for the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been revealed, and it’s not Super Mario World — it’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
The announcement came from Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. The April 3, 2026 release date remains unchanged for the U.S. and select territories, with Japan getting the movie on April 24. Additional international rollouts will take place throughout April.

Cast Returning
The core voice cast is back: Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek). More characters and voice actors will be announced later.
Creative Team and Release Info
Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return, along with writer Matthew Fogel. Super Mario Galaxy is co-financed by Universal and Nintendo, with Universal distributing the film globally.
Meledandri and Miyamoto are producing.
The first movie, released in 2023, is the third highest-grossing animated film of all time with $1.36 billion worldwide. It posted a $166.4 million domestic opening over Easter weekend and reportedly earned $559 million in profit across all channels.
What is Super Mario Galaxy?
Super Mario Galaxy was released in 2007 as 3D platform game for the Nintendo Wii. It’s widely regarded as one of the best games in the Super Mario series and is known for its innovative gravity-based gameplay, orchestral score, and creative level design.
The story sees Bowser kidnap Princess Peach and steal the Power Stars, with Mario is launched into space. With the help of Rosalina and her star-like Luma companions, Mario travels to various galaxies to collect the Power Stars and defeat Bowser.
