Man of Tomorrow Adds Matthew Lillard To Superman Sequel

Matthew Lillard has joined the cast of Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming Superman sequel from DC Studios.

Deadline reports Lillard has been added to the James Gunn film, though his role is being kept under wraps. DC Studios had no comment.

The casting adds another name to what is already becoming a packed DCU sequel, with David Corenswet back as Superman and Nicholas Hoult returning as Lex Luthor.

Matthew Lillard Joins Man of Tomorrow

Lillard has been busy as of late.

He is returning to the Scream franchise for Scream 7 as Stu Macher, joined the second season of Cross, and was also recently seen in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 on Disney+.

He will next be seen in A24’s Carrie series.

Now Lillard is jumping over to DC for Man of Tomorrow, but for now, there is no word on whether he is playing a hero, villain, comic book character, or a new role created for the movie.

Lillard also played Shaggy in the Scooby Doo movies, written by Gunn.

Man of Tomorrow Cast Continues To Grow

Man of Tomorrow already has a large cast lined up.

David Corenswet returns as Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan back as Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult is also returning as Lex Luthor.

The cast also includes Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.

Lars Eidinger plays the villain, Brainiac, with it again reported that Adria Arjona is Maxima, and Aaron Pierre returns from the Lanterns series as Green Lantern John Stewart.

Release info

James Gunn is directing Man of Tomorrow and also wrote the script. Gunn is producing the film as well.

The sequel follows Superman, which kicked off Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU on the big screen.

The title also points to the next stage of Gunn’s Superman story, with Brainiac expected to play a major role, where Corenswet’s Superm and Hoult’s Lex team together to take on a larger cosmic threat.

Man of Tomorrow is currently in production and is set to open in theaters on July 9, 2027.
