A viral reaction on X is tearing into Disney and Hulu’s Malcolm in the Middle revival, accusing the new series of completely gutting what made the original show work.
The post comes from @FloppingAces, who said he and his wife were excited to watch the reboot, only to come away disgusted by what they saw.
In the user’s view, Disney did not revive Malcolm in the Middle. Disney desecrated it.

Viral X post unloads on the reboot
According to the post which has nearly been viewed 200k times, the revival is “absolute trash” with “no laughs, no chaos, no nostalgia,” and no heart.
Instead, the X user described it as “pointless, preachy slop” that feels more interested in pushing an agenda than delivering the kind of comedy fans loved from the original.
Frustration in the post centers on what the user sees as Hollywood forcing modern identity politics into a classic sitcom instead of respecting the source material.

Kelly becomes the flashpoint
One of the biggest complaints in the viral post is what Disney did with the surprise pregnancy from the original finale.
The X user says the baby was turned into “an 18-year-old non-binary they/them named Kelly,” which is being held up as the clearest example of how far the revival allegedly strays from the original show (details previously confirmed here).
In the post, @FloppingAces mocked the move as exactly the kind of modern Hollywood decision fans have come to expect from legacy reboots.
“Of course they did. Because nothing says “we respect the source material” like turning your surprise baby into a pronoun warrior full of depressed apathy, paralyzed embarrassment, and impotent fury,” said the X user.

Malcolm and Stevie also get called out
The criticism does not stop with Kelly.
The X user also took aim at Malcolm having a mixed-race girlfriend, arguing Hollywood apparently decided the original setup was not “diverse” enough.
“Malcolm’s got a mixed-race girlfriend now, because apparently the original white-picket dysfunction wasn’t ‘diverse’ enough,” states the post.
Stevie also drew fire in the post. @FloppingAces complained that the character was changed into what the user sees as another example of writers stuffing the series with identity-first choices instead of focusing on humor and character.
“And don’t even get me started on Stevie. The brilliant, wheelchair-bound Black kid with one lung who used to roast everyone with genius-level sarcasm? Yeah, they made him super gay, rocking two earrings, married to a white dude, and raising an adopted baby son,” posted the X user.

“Zero funny moments. Zero heart.”
The harshest part of the reaction is the claim that the reboot simply is not funny.
@FloppingAces said the series has “zero funny moments” and “zero heart,” which gets right to the core of why fans of the original could be turned off. Malcolm in the Middle was never loved because it checked boxes. Fans loved it because it was wild, sarcastic, dysfunctional, and actually funny.
A revival can update characters all it wants, but once the comedy is gone, the whole thing falls apart.

Disney and Hollywood get blasted
By the end of the post, the criticism turns into a broader shot at Disney and Hollywood in general.
@FloppingAces accused them of being creatively bankrupt and ruining established franchises because they cannot come up with anything original. The final message is blunt and angry: leave the classics alone.
“These hacks couldn’t resist turning a dysfunctional-but-loving family into their personal social engineering project,” said the user.
Plenty of revivals already feel like cynical nostalgia plays, but posts like this show how quickly fan excitement can flip into backlash when viewers think a beloved property has been hijacked and rewritten into something unrecognizable.
