Lucasfilm has officially announced Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Season 2 before the first season has even fully launched on Disney+.
The news comes from starwars.com, where Lucasfilm President and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni confirmed that Maul’s story will continue with a second season already in the works from Lucasfilm Animation.
Lucasfilm Confirms Maul Will Return
Not only is Maul out for revenge in the new animated series, but Lucasfilm is already moving forward with more episodes.
The announcement says Maul’s journey will continue in Season 2, giving the series an early vote of confidence ahead of the Season 1 debut.
Season 1 premieres on Disney+ with a two-episode launch on Monday.
What Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Is About
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord follows Maul as he attempts to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.
The official description says Maul crosses paths with a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who may become the apprentice he is looking for as he continues his pursuit of revenge.
Lucasfilm has been selling the series as a pulpy animated adventure set in the early years of the Empire, with Maul caught between the criminal underworld, Imperial forces, and new allies and enemies on Janix.
Cast Includes Sam Witwer Returning As Maul
Sam Witwer returns once again to voice Maul, continuing his long run with the character from The Clone Wars and Rebels.
The cast also includes Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots, Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio Daki, Chris Diamantopoulos as Looti Vario, Charlie Bushnell as Rylee Lawson, Vanessa Marshall as Rook Kast, David W. Collins as Spybot, A.J. LoCascio as Marrok, and Steve Blum as Icarus.
Dave Filoni Continues Expanding Star Wars Animation
Created by Dave Filoni, the series is based on Star Wars and characters created by George Lucas. It is developed by Filoni and Matt Michnovetz, with Brad Rau serving as supervising director.
The executive producers are Dave Filoni, Athena Yvette Portillo, Matt Michnovetz, Brad Rau, Carrie Beck, and Josh Rimes. Alex Spotswood is co-executive producer.
The early Season 2 announcement also shows Lucasfilm is continuing to lean into Filoni’s corner of Star Wars, especially when it comes to animated storytelling and legacy characters.
When Season 1 Premieres
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord begins streaming on Disney+ on April 6, 2026, with two new episodes premiering weekly at 12 a.m. PT.
