The Supergirl trailer is taking over TikTok — literally.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. have pulled off a first-of-its-kind marketing move, making Supergirl the first movie trailer ever served as the opening video to every TikTok user across multiple countries in a single day.
According to THR, the takeover runs Saturday and hits 13 territories, including the United States, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, and Australia.
For anyone opening TikTok, Supergirl is the first thing they see (note: When we checked, Supergirl didn’t play first).

TikTok Tests a New Hollywood Marketing Weapon
TikTok is treating the rollout as a test case for future studio marketing campaigns. With the platform’s massive Gen-Z and younger millennial audience, the exposure is hard to ignore.
Warner Bros. is the first studio to test a new TikTok feature that allows the Supergirl trailer to interact directly with the TikTok logo, turning the app itself into part of the promotion.
TikTok is also launching a dedicated Spotlight Page for Supergirl, acting as a hub for:
- Official film info
- Trailer content
- Creator reactions and fan videos
Beyond social media, the trailer will also be displayed on massive digital screens, including Times Square in New York and the Now Vista Building in London.

A Different Kind of Supergirl
The film stars Milly Alcock, 25, as Kara Zor-El, positioned as a much rougher, more damaged character than Superman.
Director Craig Gillespie described the movie as an anti-hero story, saying Supergirl carries “a lot of demons” and emotional baggage — a sharp contrast to where Superman is in his life.
DC Studios co-head James Gunn echoed that approach, saying the character is intentionally flawed and far from perfect, a departure from how female superheroes are often portrayed.

Cast and Creative Team
Supergirl is directed by Craig Gillespie from a script by Ana Nogueira.
The cast includes Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.
The film is the next theatrical project from DC Studios, run by James Gunn and Peter Safran, and is shaping up to be one of the studio’s biggest marketing swings yet.
